When I first started out, one of my very first test shoots was with a little girl called Amelia and her pony Elvis. So when Hayley, Amelia’s mum, purchased one of my Mud to Makeup gift vouchers for Amelia for Christmas, I was really excited to revisit them, capture how much Amelia has grown and meet her new pony.
Amelia has had Annandale New Approach, or ‘Roach’ for a year now and this little partnership are super cute! Roach is an eight year-old, Welsh Section B and Hayley bought him as a cradle stakes pony, to get Amelia into working hunter classes, after she came out of first ridden classes.
But Roach has proved his worth, over and over, having taken Amelia from cradle stakes, to opens, nursery stakes and HOYS and RI qualifiers. So this pair have achieved a mega amount in their first year together.
Hayley tells me that Roach has given Amelia so much confidence and has been even more than they’d hoped for. He was originally bred to be a lead-rein hunter pony, but it seems that he enjoys the bigger classes.
In the past, Roach was used as a stallion and wasn’t gelded until he was five years-old. He has also been a lead-rein pony and Amelia has also done one flat class with him, which they won. But Roach seems extremely happy with his life as Amelia’s partner in crime, winning numerous ribbons in working hunter classes around the country.
It is clear to see that these two are the very best of friends. Amelia is super confident with Roach and he follows her around like a puppy dog, which is so cute to watch. He even gives her kisses when she asks him to. Hayley says that Roach is a real people pleaser and just loves the attention.
Big thank you to Hayley, for having Sherrie and I, and to Amelia and Roach for being super models. Despite a bit of a chaotic start, including some very noisy helicopters which Roach didn’t bat an eyelid at, it was a really great shoot and I hope you guys are as pleased with this set of images as I am. To me, these just perfectly illustrate what it is to be a little girl who loves her pony!
