April & Twix – Equine Photography, Norton Heath, Essex

I’ve never had flu before. I thought I’d had flu in the past… Turns out, I was previously just suffering from a common cold. Because flu SUCKS!! It knocked me out for almost three weeks and there is still a stubborn, residual tickle lingering in my throat that has totally outstayed it’s welcome.

However, I’m determined to pretend like it doesn’t exist and forge ahead. And I’m so please to be back out, shooting!! January has just been an absolute write off. I took some self imposed time out from shooting, at the beginning of the year, to get the Equestrian Entrepreneurs Network off of the ground and then flu took care of the rest.

But earlier in the week I finally managed to get out and about again, and had a fab shoot with the lovely April and her very cheeky, but extremely charming chap, Twix, where is stabled at Norton Heath Equestrian Centre.

April has had her five year-old KWPN for only six months now. ‘Foo Fighter’ as he is known in the competition ring, has actually only been in the UK for around eight or nine months, since being imported from Holland.

Twix and April have had an unlucky start to their relationship, as Twix has been on box rest with a mystery lameness for a couple of months. However, he has been back in work for a couple of weeks now and April is excited to take him to his first show in a few weeks time.

This shoot was quite eventful. Twix is like a big playful puppy. Couple that with winter turnout and then two months on box rest and he was all about making the shoot a little bit more exciting. Lol! He simply decided that photoshoots were far too boring and that posing on his back legs was much more preferable.

This little pickle clearly doesn’t phase April, though, and she was great at persuading him to pose nicely, despite his mischievous nature. Luckily for him, he’s incredibly handsome and the camera absolutely loved him. As did I. Just look at that head-shot! Robinson’s catalogue material, or what?!

Twix has already qualified for the British Showjumping National Championships, in Stoneleigh, so after their rocky beginning, I wish April and her handsome boy much success and happiness together. I think they’re going to make a great team and I look forward to seeing their progress.
