Jo and KC have the cutest story ever! Did anybody read the Saddle Club books when they were little? Jo and KC’s story is like something pulled straight from one of those novels!
Jo regularly rode Thoroughbred cross, KC at her local riding stables, when she was younger and had, understandably, fallen in love with him. So when her riding school held an auction to downsize their yard, her parents put together as much money as they could and said that if KC remained within their budget, then they’d buy him for her.
Sadly, his auction price exceeded their budget and was purchased by somebody else. After the auction, however, KC’s buyer approached Jo and told her that she’d bought him because she wanted to ensure he went to a good home and that if Jo could love him and look after him, she could have him. The mystery buyer had had a big win on the horses the day before and this was how she wanted to spend her winnings. She didn’t want her name on any of his papers and signed full ownership of KC over to Jo.
Thirteen years later, Jo and her sister Sarah haven’t heard hide nor hair from that generous lady and despite trying to search for her to update her on KC, they haven’t been able to find her.
I just love this story!! I know I’m going to be telling it to people for years!
But sadly, despite their fairytale beginning, Sarah got in touch to book this shoot because poor KC, who has now been retired for a few years, has been diagnosed with kissing spines. He is being made comfortable with physiotherapy and other treatment, but Jo thinks that this summer will be his last. So I was honoured to have been able to go over and capture some lasting memories of this gorgeous pair.
Sarah, thank you for getting in touch and getting everything organised and Jo, thank you for letting me photograph your beautiful boy. It was a pleasure to meet you all and I will keep you in my thoughts in the coming months. I hope that KC continues to remain comfortable and happy for as long as possible.
