This shoot was booked under quite unusual circumstances. Katie’s mum, Bindy, got in touch last week to see if there was any possible way I could squeeze in a last minute shoot. The reason it was all a bit of a rush was because their little Welsh pony was being sold, imminently. But this wasn’t just any ordinary sale. Hagrid was jetting off to his new home, in America!
Katie has had the very beautiful, eleven year-old Welsh Section B, Littlebyrom Hagrid, for five years, but has sadly outgrown him. In their time together, they’d had more wins than I can mention in flat showing, working hunter, pony club, eventing… they’ve pretty much done everything together. It’s very obvious that this pony is a total rockstar and worth his weight in gold.
But, when they reluctantly put him up for sale, so that he could go on and make another little girls’ dreams come true, they never imagined Hagrid’s many talents would result in him going global!!
But on Sunday afternoon, this little pony was due to journey state-side. So, with my only free space being on Sunday morning, we had just a couple of hours to capture this super cute pair on camera. And, because the British weather has quite the sense of humour, it absolutely poured for the whole of Sunday morning. I mean, really poured. The kind of rain that doesn’t look like much, but sneakily soaks you down to the bone in the time it takes you to get from your front door to your car! And, despite Katie having found beautiful locations with rapeseed fields and bluebell covered woodland, we had to do the entire shoot in the garage!
But, we did manage to get some beautiful shots and I’m so glad to have been able to do this for this lovely family, against all odds. Hagrid, I hope that your new life across the pond is as glamorous as it sounds and Katie and Bindy, I hope that Sunday afternoon wasn’t too awful and that your search for Katie’s next superstar is smooth. I look forward to meeting you all again and hopefully our next shoot will be somewhat sunnier and a whole lot dryer!!
