Over the long Easter weekend, I popped over to Purleigh, near Maldon, about five minutes from where I used to keep my old pony, to photograph Millie and her cheeky cob, Frankie. It wasn’t exactly a beautiful sunny, Spring day, but at least it was dry and mild, after the crazy wind we’ve been having lately.
Millie’s entire family are horsey and have predominantly been into driving, for many years. But they have recently decided to convert to the world of riding, a little more and Millie bought Frankie, who she shares with her Dad, in February, to do mainly in-hand and ridden showing with. And it seems this little cob has settled in pretty quickly. He seemed perfectly at home and he and Millie have clearly already developed a fabulous friendship.
Millie keeps Frankie and the family’s six other ponies on a yard at their home, so we had great fun using the garden for their shoot. We also roped in Millie’s Jack Russell cross Poodle, Ziggy, for a few shots, which was hilarious, as he spent most of the time on his back legs, like a meerkat.
Seven year-old Frankie, or Frankie Jagger, as he’s known at shows, is such a dude. He is quite a cheeky chappy, with a big personality and a very persuasive ‘look how cute I am, give me food’ face, but apparently he’s super steady and I think Millie is going to have lots of fun with him. Millie’s elder sister, Harriet, tells me that he’s super brave out hacking and so well mannered on the ground. He has already done quite a bit of showing, having been to RIHS and had plenty of experience with his previous owners. So I’m sure he will teach Millie the ropes.
I will definitely look forward to seeing all of Millie’s updates about her adventures with Frankie the super cob, the new love of her life. And a little birdy told me that he apparently tucked into a yummy pony Easter egg just after I left. (See, it’s that persuasive face! He’s good at that!!) Thank you for having me, Millie. I had a great afternoon with you guys!
