Last weekend I made the very short trip, to see Ann, her daughter, Claire, their friend, Sam and their four ponies, just five minutes from my parent’s home in Great Totham, near Maldon.
Sam had purchased a gift voucher for Ann and Claire for Christmas, and as she looks after their cob, Benny, as her own, she joined us for the shoot too, and we made it a group occasion. It was so much fun. Utter organised chaos, but lots of giggles! 🙂 (Which pretty much sums up the majority of my shoots, to be honest! Lol!)
Ann and Claire own four beautiful, very different ponies. Trefrifawr Samson is Claire’s pride and joy. He is a nineteen year-old, 14.1hh, Welsh Section D and has been worth his weight in gold, by the sounds of things. Claire has owned Samson for five years and the pair have had lots of success at competitions. They’ve competed in dressage, showjumping and cross country together, he was BSJA pony of the year in 2006, and Ann tells me that super Samson has never, ever refused a jump. What a champ! Unfortunately, due to work commitments, Claire doesn’t have the time to compete Samson like she used to, but she said she would never part with him and he has a home for life.
Benny is a gorgeous eight year-old traditional coloured cob. Benny looks so much like my old pony, Freddie, that I had to do a double take when they introduced me to him, and when I sent my friend a picture, she thought he was Fred! He has been with Ann, Claire and Sam for eighteen months and has been in the process of going back to basics with Sam. He has done some local jumping and dressage and has just recently ventured into the world of showing. Sam says that he can be a bit of a bulldozer at times, but this cheeky chap is quite the charmer, with a variety of amusing facial expressions, and clearly very much loved by everybody who meets him.
Rossi and Rio were bought as companions for Samson and Benny. Rossi, an extremely pretty, roan, thirteen year-old Welsh Section B, is broken to ride, but lives a quite life as Benny’s BFF and the pair of them are apparently inseparable. And Rio, the 6 year old Miniature Shetland is a total pickle who wreaked havoc and had us in stitches, when we tried to include him in a group shot and he is Samson’s little field buddy.
So, as you can see, Ann, Claire and Sam have quite a gang of characters and they were such great fun to work with. Thank you so much for having me, ladies. I hope I’ve done your handsome boys justice.
